GayCity.co.uk’s landing page is simple yet effective, complete with HTML tags. While the design might be a bit outdated, the abundance of information promises a lot. According to the site, it receives 1.6 million monthly visitors, and thousands of users chat with someone new every day, with most ending up meeting in person. Best of all, basic features are free, and new members can search for their next partner, send winks, and practice pick-up lines without spending a dime.

However, GayCity.co.uk isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Upon further inspection, it turns out the site is just a scam with a fake chat service. Physical meetings between users and fictitious profiles are not possible, as stated by the site’s terms and conditions.

A high price with no rewards

GayCity.co.uk’s main goal isn’t to help users set up real-life meetings, and the majority of the profiles on the site aren’t genuine. They’re created and monitored by company employees, whose job is to keep users entertained as long as possible to make them spend more. While registration is free of charge, communication with other members is not. Users need to buy credits to be able to send messages, with each message costing one credit, which equals about £1.25. Prices decrease slightly when users buy bigger credit packages, but they’re still expensive. At least the payments are one-off and non-recurring, and the site isn’t a subscription rip-off.
